However, the difference in age did not appear to be clinically relevant (60.5 ± 12 vs 56.2 ± 16.2 years) and multivariate analysis did not show independent factors associated with mechanical complications. We were not able to identify any other studied parameter associated with mechanical complications (coronal Cobb, TL translation, or UIV). In fact, neither preopera- tive TLK nor TLK change after surgery seemed to influence mechanical complications. There was no difference in the rate of mechanical complications when comparing patients with low PI (PI < 50°) whose TLK remained postoperatively above 20° with those whose TLK was corrected to below 20°. High PI vs low PI When compar ing pat i ent s wit h hi gh PI and t hos e wit h l ow PI (Tabl e 3) , we found t hat Table 3.- Comparison between patients with low and high PI Low PI < 50° (74) High PI > 50° (97) P Age (years) 55 ± 16 60.1 ± 13.7 0.028* PI (°) 41 ± 5.7 60 ± 8.9 0.000* Preoperative PT (°) 19.5 ± 9.9 28.3 ± 11.1 0.000* SS (°) 21.8 ± 9.7 31.7 ± 10.2 0.000* TL Cobb (°) 53.2 ± 15.6 53.9 ± 17.7 0.786 TLK (°) 36.7 ± 14.7 32.8 ± 11.5 0.066 TL translation (mm) 40.3 ± 17.4 40.7 ± 19.4 0.869 MaxLL (°) 48.8 ± 11.4 54.1 ± 14.7 0.072 Postoperative PT (°) 16.3 ± 8.2 24.3 ± 8.7 0.000* SS (°) 23.5 ± 10.6 30.7 ± 14.1 0.000* Post TL Cobb (°) 28.6 ± 17 28.8 ± 17.6 0.960 Post TLK (°) 17.2 ± 15.7 9.9 ± 10.51 0.002* Post TL translation (mm) 25.3 ± 15.4 24.1 ± 16.1 0.647 MaxLL (°) 47.1 ± 11.7 56.3 ± 12.4 0.002* TL Cobb change (°) 23.6 ± 16.9 25.7 ± 17.2 0.471 TLK change (°) 19.7 ± 20.8 23.1 ± 15.4 0.290 TL translation change (mm) 20.8 ± 1.7 18.3 ± 2.11 0.869 Complications Postoperative Mismatch 28.4% 76.2% 0.000* Mechanical complications 39.7% 37.5% 0.873 TL Cobb: thoracolumbar coronal Cobb angle; TLK: thoracolumbar kyphosis; Max LL: maximal lumbar lordosis; PI: pelvic incidence; PT: pelvic tilt; SS: sacral slope. * statistical significance
